Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about visiting the Meridian Historical Village.
When are the buildings open?
The buildings are open to the public on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, May through October. The Village is closed December 15 through January 31. Private tours and group visits are available by appointment at other times.
Where is the office located?
The Friends of Historic Meridian (FHM) office is located in the Barnes House at the Meridian Historical Village, 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos, MI 48864. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 155, Okemos, MI 48805-0155. Office hours vary by season — see the Contact page for current hours.
How do I schedule a private tour?
Private tours can be arranged by calling 517-347-7300 or emailing meridianhistoricalvillage@gmail.com. Please allow at least four days' notice. Tours are approximately 45 minutes and cost $10 per person, $7 for seniors (65+), and free for children 10 and under.
Can school groups visit the Village?
Yes! We welcome school groups and offer several structured tour programs designed for elementary students, including the Village Sampler, One Room Schoolhouse experience, and multi-day BIG History Lessons. Visit our School Field Trips page for details.
Is the Village appropriate for preschool-aged children?
We do not recommend the Village for children under school age. Our tour programs and building exhibits are designed for elementary students and older visitors. Preschool-aged children may find the tour length and content difficult to engage with, and the historic buildings contain fragile artifacts.
Where should I park?
Park in the lot between the Nokomis Learning Center and the Village. The Chapel parking lot is reserved for emergency access only. During special events, follow posted signs for overflow parking.
Are the buildings handicap accessible?
Most buildings are wheelchair accessible. However, the Tollgate House, Barnes House, and Farmhouse are not accessible to visitors with mobility limitations due to their historic construction. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility needs.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. The General Store gift shop accepts credit cards, debit cards, and cash. We also accept credit cards for membership payments, rental fees, and event bookings.
Can I take photographs?
Personal photography is welcome throughout the Village and inside the buildings. We ask that you do not use flash photography near artifacts and exhibits. Commercial photography and professional photo shoots require advance approval — please contact the office to arrange.
