Volunteers are the heart of the Meridian Historical Village. We rely on dedicated community members to keep our buildings open, our tours running, and our events thriving. With 15 volunteer positions available, there is a role for every interest and skill level.

Volunteer Perks

Volunteers who contribute 10 or more hours per year receive:

  • Free FHM membership for the following year
  • 10% discount at the General Store gift shop
  • Free personalized tour of the Village
  • 25% discount on building rental fees

Volunteer Positions

  1. Tour Guide / Docent — Lead visitors through historic buildings, sharing stories and answering questions during public hours and private tours.
  2. School Tour Docent — Guide elementary school groups through hands-on educational activities in the buildings.
  3. General Store Clerk — Staff the gift shop during public hours, assist visitors with purchases, and maintain inventory.
  4. Greeter — Welcome visitors at the Village entrance, provide maps and orientation, and answer general questions.
  5. Gardener — Maintain the heritage gardens and landscaping around the Village buildings.
  6. Building Maintenance — Help with upkeep, minor repairs, and seasonal preparation of the historic structures.
  7. Event Volunteer — Assist with setup, operations, and teardown for Heritage Festival, Christmas in the Village, and other events.
  8. Day Camp Counselor — Help supervise and lead activities during the Summer Day Camp program.
  9. Artisan / Demonstrator — Demonstrate 19th-century crafts and skills such as butter making, drop spinning, weaving, or blacksmithing.
  10. Collections Assistant — Help catalog, photograph, and preserve artifacts in the Village collection.
  11. Office Assistant — Support the Executive Director with administrative tasks, filing, correspondence, and data entry.
  12. Newsletter Contributor — Write articles, edit content, or help with layout for The Gatekeeper quarterly newsletter.
  13. Social Media Assistant — Help manage the Village's Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest accounts with posts and engagement.
  14. Photographer — Document events, buildings, artifacts, and volunteer activities for the website and archives.
  15. Special Projects — Contribute your unique skills to one-time or ongoing projects such as exhibit design, research, or fundraising.

No prior experience is required for most positions. We provide training and ongoing support. Volunteers of all ages are welcome — students seeking community service hours are encouraged to apply.
