The Meridian Historical Village offers a "Playing the Past" badge program designed specifically for Girl Scout troops. This hands-on program combines a guided tour of our historic buildings with activities that bring local history to life.
Program Overview
Girl Scouts explore the Village's historic buildings while learning about the people who lived and worked in the Meridian Township area during the 19th century. The program emphasizes:
- Local history — How families lived, worked, and built community in early Michigan
- Historic preservation — Why we save old buildings and what they teach us
- Daily life skills — How people cooked, cleaned, learned, and traveled before modern conveniences
What Scouts Experience
- Guided tour through multiple historic buildings
- Hands-on activities connected to pioneer life
- Stories of the real people who lived in these buildings
- Discussion of how life has changed over the past 150 years
Badge Requirements
The program is designed to fulfill requirements for the "Playing the Past" badge. Our staff will work with troop leaders to ensure all badge criteria are addressed during the visit.
