The Village Chapel is a faithful replica of a 19th-century New England-style meeting house, modeled after an 1870 original that once stood at the corner of Okemos Road and Methodist Street. While not a historic structure itself, the Chapel was built to the period's specifications and incorporates genuine historic elements.
Architecture and Features
The Chapel captures the simple elegance of 19th-century New England church architecture:
- Belfry and steeple crowning the roofline
- Double front doors welcoming visitors
- Arched windows providing natural light
- 14 pews with oak floors and a raised altar
- 34-foot aisle — perfect for wedding processions
Historic Elements
The Chapel incorporates rescued antique stained-glass windows from a historic church in Haslett, Michigan. These authentic period windows bring genuine 19th-century artistry into the space.
Modern Amenities
While faithful to its period aesthetic, the Chapel includes modern comforts:
- Full HVAC (heating and air conditioning)
- State-of-the-art sound system (accommodates CDs, portable devices, and microphone)
- Wheelchair ramps on both the north and south sides
- Handicap-accessible restroom
- Changing rooms for wedding parties

The Chapel is one of the most popular wedding venues in the greater Lansing area, offering a uniquely historic setting.
